Cynon Valley Ba Ba’s U14’s v Cardiff Quins U14’s 24th February 2008

Last weekend saw the Cardiff Quins Girls U14 team take to the field for their 1st ever game. The team had only started training some 6 weeks previous and the fixture secretary (in his wisdom) had arranged a 1st fixture away from the comfort of home, at Abercwmboi RFC.

Right from the kick off the Quins girls showed how much they’ve developed over the past few weeks. In attack they looked to play an expansive game always looking to go forwards, moving the ball wide to their wingers and supporting each other. In defence, despite conceding an early try, they continually stopped the opposition players with some excellent tackling and good work at the breakdown area.

The most pleasing aspects of the performance was the high skill levels of the girls in the pressure of a match, the high workrate, their camaraderie off the pitch and the teamwork displayed on it, and their obvious enjoyment at playing rugby.

Although it was a day where team performance meant more than the scoreline- and just to keep the stattos happy- it is very pleasing to report that Cardiff Quins gained a well deserved 52-17 victory.
Tryscorers were Katie Scrines (2), Amberley Ruck (2), Cerys Ballett, Lowri Morgan, Llinos Honeybun and Becky Williams. Conversions from Amberley Ruck (3) and Lowri Morgan (3) added to the total. An excellent performance /result from a side that included 10 girls playing their 1st ever game of rugby.

The girls next Fixture is away v Pentrych on Sunday 2nd March. 10.00am k.o.

The Cardiff Quins U14 Squad for their 1st game is pictured below and includes Ashley Searle, Ffion Edmunds, Becky Williams, Branwen Parry, Lowri Roberts, Jo Bevan, Lowri Morgan, Amberley Ruck, Cerys Ballett (capt), Llinos Honeybun, Katie Scrines, Dela Anderson, Gwen Lynch.
