Quins 0 – 103 Tylorstown RFC
Cardiff
Quins were subjected to a heavy defeat against Tylorstown on Sunday.
Quins always knew this would be a very tough match as a number of
regular players (who are also Welsh internationals) were unavailable to
play such as Catrina Nicholas, Awen Thomas and Kerry Jenkins. The
squad included 5 players making their debut for the Quins with 3 playing
in their first ever rugby match!
Credit must go to both
teams to pull out the stops to actually re-arrange this fixture after
their original opponents postponed due to them struggling to raise
teams.
Even though the scoreline
may suggest otherwise, the Quins never really gave up during the full 80
minutes and had a fairly strong set piece play. The main reason
for Tylorstown winning by such a margin was their extremely talented and
pacey backline. This was evident by the fact that only 1 of their
17 tries was scored by a forward in openside flanker Jamie Kift.
However, credit must go to No 8 Kristy Thomas for constantly setting up
good ball for her backs.
Although Cardiff Quins
put in some big tackles, Tylorstown were able to create space for
themselves by being able to off load the ball in contact.
Nadine Griffith, Head
Coach of the Quins commented, “We knew this would be a very hard
battle, and had always viewed this match as a development tool.
What I have been very encouraged by is the amount of new players wanting
to take up the sport, so even without our regular first choice players
we were still able to fulfill the fixture. Although it is always
difficult to lose by such a large margin, players still learn a lot from
matches like this’
Cardiff Quins play their
next fixture on the 9th October at Pontyclun RFC Back
