Llandaff North 35
Cardiff Quins 10
South
Division One commenced this Sunday with a local derby between last
seasons first and second placed sides, Llandaff North and Cardiff Quins.
Gwawr
Jones played in her first ever rugby match, making her debut on the Wing
for the Cardiff Quins. It was an excellent start to her rugby
career and nearly culminated in a try near to the end of the match.
Nadine Griffiths
, Head-Coach of the Quins also came out of retirement and is still in
one piece to tell the tale despite half her game being played in the
back-line (not bad for an ex-international prop!).
Llandaff
North dominated the first half. Excellent passing from promising young
centre Sophie Wilkinson, enabled winger Abby King to score in the first
minute for the first of her four tries. North continued their
strong start and through excellent support play from the forwards,
flanker Simon Dive powered over the line to score under the posts.
After several powerful runs from the pack, centre Stacy Hardie was
rewarded with a try of her own. Outside half Paula Mullen
converted 3 of the 6 tries, one with a fantastic kick from the touch
line.
The
Quins came out a rejuvenated team in the second half and after two break
away tries from scrum half Becky Davies and second row Anwen Hopkins,
Quins took on an attacking frame and started to make a come back.
Llandaff North managed to hold Quins out, however, with the final score
Llandaff North 36, Cardiff Harlequins 10.
