The Quins secured their first
victory of the season on Sunday with a 20-5 win over Blaenau Gwent. It
was a competitive game from the outset with the Quins full-back, Jilly
Holroyd, securing the first try 30 minutes into the game followed by a
second just before the end of the first half. Blaenau Gwent came out
strongly in the second half with some good tactical cross-field kicking
from their fly-half. After some slick off-loading in the contact area,
Quins scrum half, Becky Davies, went over for the third try of the
match. Blaneau fought back and were rewarded for their hard-work with a
try from full-back Mandy Tyler-Davies. The game was secured soon after,
however, with some excellent phases of play finished off by Catrina
Nicholas, Quins Number 8, going over to score a try in the corner.
There is no match next week as it
is a women’s autumn international weekend with three of the Quins
players (Catrina Nicholas, Becky Davies and Awen Thomas) all travelling
with the senior squad to play a fixture against Italy in Treviso.
