Russell Jenkins stepped down as club president in July 2006 after being involved in the club for 50 years

A dinner was held on Friday 19th January 2007 at the Cardiff HSOB to acknowledge Russell's enormous contribution to Cardiff HSOB RFC.

Some 95 members and friends of Cardiff HSOB RFC attended the event, with Bob Coles who first played in 1947 being the oldest member at the dinner.

There were several speakers, including Russell's brother Brynley, who had travelled from Rome. Brynley spoke of some personal reminiscences, after David Parry-Jones had given some "Early Memories"

Another "Old boy" - John Sanders, who had come down from Queens' College - Cambridge as Russell went there, proposed the Toast to Russell. John Sanders played in the mid fifties for the Old boys in the same side as David Parry-Jones before accepting a position as a Surveyor for the Nigerian Railways. John went onto form a Rugby side in Nigeria which went to play a side from Ghana, so hence forward John claimed that he was a "Nigerian International"

An engraved drinks tray was presented to Russell on behalf of the Club:

The inscription reads:

To Russell Jenkins
In appreciation of 50 years loyal service.
From Cardiff HSOB RFC
19 January 2007

Russell then responded and thanked members who had helped him at the club, in particular Malcolm Jackson, Bill Hunt and Max Wigley to name but a few from the early days.

Russell was very appreciative of the club holding a dinner in his honour and for the drinks tray.

Russell received a standing ovation.

Brynmor Williams had "The Last Word" and amused the guests with an excellent speech.

After dinner the majority of guests spent some considerable time renewing old friendships and sharing reminiscences about tours going back to 1970, most of which Russell had organised!
